Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil Black Brown – Review and Swatches

All the girls who are Madhuri Dixit fans, raise your hands. Yeah, I know, who doesn’t like her. Her beauty is like wine, it’s getting better with age, barring all the Botox off course. Few days back, I was watching Devdas on DVD, (I know it’s a sloooow movie, but hey, kaun kambakht movie story ke liye dekhta hai, hum to dekhte hain ki Madhuri ka makeup dekh sake, uske designer kapde dekh sakein :P). In the song Dhai Sham, there is this step, where Madhuri lifts her both eye brows one by one, ohh, I have been trying to do that since ages now, but, in vain. She does it so effortlessly. Besides the step itself, the other thing which caught my attention were her amazingly shaped full eyebrows. They looked so pretty. It added a lot of structure to her face, and off course, a lot of ease for the dance step :P. I can’t tell better how important eyebrows are for our face, they bring structure and frame our face, and take my words, NEVER IGNORE YOUR EYEBROWS. Make sure they are always shaped, tidy and well framing, while still looking natural. These points apply only off course if you have weird, unshapely brows like mine. If your brows are naturally full, well, I can’t be anything but jealous.

What company says: Professional Eyebrow Pencil is used to enhance and refine the shape of the eyebrows. Can be used to fill gaps or lengthen the arc of the eyebrow to create the desired look. Available in 3 shades, from the left, Dark Brown, Hazel, Black Brown.

Price for Qty.: Rs. 205

Product & Texture: This is a simple wooden pencil, which can be sharpened. The shade I bought is Black Brown, and it works perfectly against my dark hair, while looking natural. The texture is quite stiff, unlike the eye pencils we have in the market and needs a little pressure to show up color on skin.

What I have to say: Eyebrows are quite an essential part of my daily routine. I might skip other things but I never skip applying moisturizer, sunscreen, lip balm and eyebrow pencil before stepping out of the door. About my eyebrows, they are not thin, rather, they are perfectly thick but the hair is very sparse. There is very less hair on the arch of the brow, which gives a feel of an unshaped brow. Plus, on my right eye brow, I have an injury cut, where there is not growth at all, hence there is a big gap, very much evident, which needs to be covered. Hence, filling and shaping my eyebrows becomes a necessity, plus, I like fuller brows, it takes away years from your face. Thinner brows make you look mature, while thicker brows make you look, err, less mature :P. I had been using Inglot eyebrow powder to fill in my eye brows, but powder usually feels a little messy to me, and I find it difficult to pull out a powder, then a brush, then fill in my brows, then set with a wax. Phew, too many steps. I wanted a pencil from a long time which could just fit the bill. I found this pencil at Parco’s, I tried it, and immediately bought it. There are a few cons to it, which actually work in the favor of the product.

The texture of the pencil is very stiff, the product doesn’t just slide onto the skin very easily. Also the pigmentation is medium, it does not give a stark brown line in one go. These properties may look like flaws but are actually the good points. Because it is not super pigmented, I can never overdo my brows. Overdone eyebrows look very stark and we don’t want brows that look quite obviously done. Plus with the texture, I can even push the pencil into my brows in hurry, but it won’t break or crumble the product onto my brow hair, which is great. With this pencil, because it is less pigmented, the color doesn’t over power my existing natural brows, and the hair very easily see through, making the brow look natural and not like they are filled in. I generally do my brows in less than 2 minutes every morning, and I am good to go. The pencil stays on me the entire day, when I am in AC environment in my office. On a day I am outing, it still stays 6+ hours, doesn’t totally go even after 10 hours. The staying power is a winner for me. Also, because we can sharpen it, I can make it pointy when I want really sharp brow arch or ends, it also sharpens quite easily without breaking. The only issue is it doesn’t come off with water only, one needs to use an oil based makeup remover for this, which honestly, isn’t really a problem.

Summing up the Pros and Cons.

You’ll heart it coz:

  • The colour works perfectly for me, and would work great for people with dark eyebrow hair.
  • Looks natural.
  • Stays really long.
  • Is waterproof.
  • Colour range is quite appropriate for Indian skin tones.
  • Comes at a very affordable price and will last long enough.
  • Can be sharpened. Hence, hygienic.

You might hate it coz:

  • I wish they had a spoolie attached instead of that shoe brush 🙁
  • Availability is low, Rimmel is not yet easily available in India. Though few websites do keep Rimmel products.
  • I don’t find any other cons with this one.
